TESTIMONY OF THE DEAD
CID assumes they have a copycat killer after the murder and scalping of a teenage girl. Twenty years earlier, vigilante father Marvin Appleby gunned down the prime suspect, Travis Dexter. Rock star Oswald Poe leaks a story so incredible, involving reincarnation and naming Appleby as the original serial killer. Unexplained Publications, involved with strange phenomena, decide to publish Poe's account. Coincidentally, they show interest in another tale of reincarnation concerning a fourteen-year old boy who claims he was abused and murdered for his artwork by his uncle. A complex tale of murder and reincarnation will keep you guessing until the final pages.

A cracking detective thriller with a supernatural angle

This hugely enjoyable nail-biter moves at quite a lick, and I couldn’t put it down. It is narrated from multiple viewpoints (my kind of story!) including the flawed Chief Inspector Jasper Endicott, and his sergeant, Layla, who wants to do the right thing. Stymied by departmental politics, they must overcome their own incredulity when it appears the discovery of a serial killer’s identity hinges on their ability to accept rockstar, Oswald Poe’s claim he is the reincarnation of a witness to one of the murders. Other standpoints include two journalists working for a publication that investigates supernatural phenomena, already working on another reincarnation story involving the missing niece of a famous artist. One of the journalists, Pippa Trodden, also becomes involved with the Oswald Poe case, and with twists and turns aplenty, the story reaches a satisfying conclusion. The two standout characters for me are Pippa (who deserves her own book!) and the eerily enigmatic Oswald Poe. I highly recommend this book and look forward to reading more by the author.

Past lives matter...

Woah! I thought this would be a detective whodunit, but my goodness! What a set of twists! When a supposed serial killer is shot dead back some 20 years ago, that was the end to their campaign of horror. But it wasn't. When identical killings start up again, all the evidence points to one man. Or does it? Throw in a parallel side story, and what you have is a riveting detective story with just the right amount of paranormal. A real page turner that keeps you guessing until the end. Loved it.

This was quite the thriller, a page turner. There are two great stories in this book, cleverly stitched together by the inventive thread of a publication featuring supernatural phenomenon. It was very engaging and the twists and turns cleverly done. The narrative and dialogue were smooth and the characters well written. I would definitely recommend.

Another great murder/horror/dark fantasy from Anthony Hulse. What more to say without spoilers? A couple of good twists at the end. A helluva good read.

Awesome Mind Bending Supernatural Detective Thriller

When a old serial murder cold case is reopened due to new murders in the same vain over twenty years later the police have their hands full trying to find the suspect. But when reincarnation is put on the table, an idea that they first scoff at, they soon realise how complicated and dangerous the case is. And when the lead detective investigating the case is corrupt, an investigative journalist from a paranormal magazine interested in the case, and famous boyband members seducing pretty women, you will see a rabbit hole of murky twists and turns. This is a very enjoyable and thought provoking supernatural thriller that kept me intrigued and invested in the characters throughout. I highly recommend this.
